Concert Privee

In April 1996, Vanessa returned to the stage for a private concert to benefit the French charity, Rêves. The concert was performed in front of a small audience and broadcast on the French cable television channel Canal+. (It was later given a national broadcast on the French television channel France2.) Vanessa donated all the proceeds from the concert broadcasts to Rêves.

During the hour-long concert, Vanessa performed 16 songs, including songs from her own albums and covers of songs by the Beatles and Rolling Stones.

Vanessa and her band needed a month to rehearse for the private concert. This was mainly because Vanessa had not been on stage for a long time. It was during this preparation that Vanessa discovered how much she missed singing on stage. She also discovered the importance of an association like Rêves. “I had the impression that it was me who received! Doing so brought back my desire and joy to be on stage! And it is a really beautiful association because they do all they can to realize the dreams of sick kids. When I say sick, I mean really sick. You see and I find it very sweet... because you know it's touching when medicine can't help kids or that you have to wait for this and that….well their courage fades and their body doesn't respond anymore. The members of this association help them to keep up their courage, to give them hope. And this really helps a lot.” (Quote from the 1997 Frequenstar interview “A Day with Vanessa”)

Rêves is an association that helps give hope and realizes the dreams of children battling life-threatening illnesses. Vanessa became involved in 1994 when the association’s president, Christophe Charlet, asked her to be a “Marraine” (godmother) to the charity. She continues in that role for the association today.
