Mon Ange is the story of Billy & Colette (it's working title). Colette is a woman desperate to have a child. Her plan: find an anonymous father in the red light district of Amsterdam. Her plans are interrupted when she must take Billy, a young, loveable street urchin, into her care for longer than she anticipated. 

Mon Ange is written and directed by Serge Frydman. It's his directorial debut after years of scriptwriting. Notably, he worked with Patrice Leconte, writing the script for Une Chance sur Deux and La Fille sur la Pont. The latter was written for Vanessa; it's known that Vanessa spoke with Serge early in Mon Ange's development, and she is something of a muse for him. 

Mon Ange's was filmed in Holland and Belgium, and produced by Claudie Ossard, one of the producers behind Amelie. Co-starring Vincent Rottiers, the film was released in January 2005, to mixed reviews. 
Critics, however, praised Vanessa's performance.
