The idea to make this action film was that of producer Christian Fechner. He approached French director Patrice Leconte with the concept of reuniting Jean-Paul Belmondo and Alain Delon, two icons of French cinema, in a film. Leconte said yes to the idea. He along with Patrick Dewolf and Serge Frydman wrote the screenplay. The film was released into French cinemas on March 25, 1998.
“I wanted to make a film that would be pure entertainment. Really, deliberately! A mainstream popular film. A show! Entertainment movies are there to be enjoyed at face value, for sheer fun. I wanted the actors to really have fun with their performances, even if the filming was sometimes difficult and complicated. I wanted the movie to be like one huge electric train set. Belmondo, Delon, and Vanessa threw themselves into the filming like kids in a giant playground.” (Patrice Leconte)
Vanessa immersed herself in the script and the role of Alice. She even refused to use a double in this film so she learned to drive fast cars and pilot a helicopter.
Alice is a 20-year-old who is released from prison after serving time in jail for stealing expensive sports cars. While in prison, her mother dies. Among the things she leaves her daughter is a message saying she is unsure which of two men (Belmondo and Delon) is Alice’s biological father. Alice sets out to find the two men. Along the way she steals a sports car belonging to the Russian mafia. What follows is lots of bullets…lots of laughs…and lots of car chases…
